News Groups
Setting up News Groups with Outlook Express
Before continuing you will need to hand your login name and your password. If you do not know these details then contact technical support - support@uku.co.uk.If you are unsure then we advise that you read through the following steps before proceeding.
Open Outlook Express. Click the Tools button (it is in the top left corner) once. When the list that drops down, click the Accounts option. In the new window that will open, click Add (top right) and then News.
The first screen that the Wizard produces is named "Your Name". Please enter your full name in the "Display Name" box, and then click Next.
A window will then appear named "Internet News Email Address". Please enter your UKU email address in the box named " Email Address", and then click Next.
A window will then appear named "Internet News Server Name". The box named "NNTP: News Server" should already have the name of our News Server entered in it. If you do not have an entry for the news server, please enter "news.uku.co.uk" and then click on Next.
A window will then appear called "Friendly Name". The box headed "Internet News Account Name" should already have the name of our current News Server entered in it, so just click Next.
A window will then appear named "Choose Connection type". Ensure that the box headed "Connect using my phone line" is checked. Then click Next.
The Wizard will then display a window named "Choose modem" if you haven't already selected the modem that you wish to use. Ensure that the correct modem is selected in the pull down window, then click Next. If this window is not displayed then just proceed.
A window will then appear named "Dial-Up Connection". Ensure that the box labeled "Use an existing Dial-Up connection" is checked, then highlight the name of your connection and then click Next.
Congratulations - you have now configured Outlook Express News. Click on Finish to complete the set up process. The wizard has now finished, and Outlook Express now prompts you to connect to download any new email. It may bring up a connection screen headed "Select the connection you would like to dial": if you would like to connect please ensure that your connection is selected from the drop-down menu. Then click on OK. If you do not wish to connect at this point please select Cancel.
If you click on OK to connect to UKU a window will be displayed named "Connect to". Please make sure the "Phone" is set to <Default>. After the details have been entered click on OK. You will now dial into UKU.
