Using your free Web Space
Stage Two : Installing and Using File Transfer (FTP) Programs
We will be adding more programs shortly. For now we have instructions for CuteFTP 6.CuteFTP Version 6 - Installation
You will see a window (as below) asking you to enter a name for the 'FTP Site' - in other words, where your files are going. Name this "My UKU Webspace" or something similar, then click Next;You will then be asked for your 'FTP Host Address' (see below). This is the location of your webspace on the internet. Enter "websites.uku.co.uk" and click Next;
Now you are asked to enter your login details (see below). Enter your UKU username. However in the password field be sure to enter the password you created when you activated your webspace - NOT the password you use to access your webmail or login. Once you have done this click Next;
Now you are asked for your 'Default Local Folder' (in other words, where on your computer are the files that make up your website?) and 'Default Remote Folder' (in other words, where is the your webspace?). Ignore this stage for now; it is easier to set it later on once you understand better how CuteFTP works. When you see the window below, just click Next;
The next window only requires you to click Finish to proceed.
Using CuteFTP Version 6
N.B. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET FIRST!When you run CuteFTP for the first time the 'Site Manager' window should open automatically. To open it manually click the icon in the top left corner.

In the 'Site Manager Window', the following is relevant:
Label: "My UKU Webspace" (marked 'A'), is the CuteFTP definition for your particular connection. You can use the New button (marked 'B') to add more, or remove them with the Delete button (marked 'C')
Host Address: (marked 'D') should read "websites.uku.co.uk"
UserID: (marked 'E') should show your UKU user ID
Password: (marked 'F') - as stated above, this must be the password you created when you activated the webspace, and NOT your normal UKU password.
The Connect button (marked 'G') - click this to connect to your webspace (if you have not already connected to the internet, you will asked to enter your UKU username and password to do so.)
Once you have logged into your webspace you are ready to upload your files. CuteFTP allows you to "drag and drop" files exactly as you do in Windows. In the left hand panel are the files on your hard drive (local files) and in the right panel are the files in your webspace (remote files). Simply click on a file you want to move and drag and drop it in the desired location.
In the image below, 'A' shows you which directory you are in on your computer and 'B' is an image file that has been put into the webspace.
